Prior to working in real estate, you need to have completed the correct studies before applying for the appropriate real estate licence in your state. In Victoria, prospective agents need to complete the CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice to work as an Agent’s Representative and kickstart a real estate career.
As a registered training organisation with over 100,000+ real estate professionals across Australia, Entry Education’s Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice in VIC provides participants with a full understanding of the real estate agent role and meets the study requirement to register as an Agent’s Representative.
We’ve interviewed our Head of Training, Mal Younes, to explain what’s involved in the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice, how the course is structured, and the learning outcomes.
Course structure & content
Q1. How is the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice structured?
The Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice program is designed to bridge the gap between what is learnt in the classroom and what happens in the real estate workplace.
At the core, the course covers three key areas. Firstly, it provides industry-relevant knowledge of the latest real estate legislation and best practices. The course develops practical skills through activities that simulate real-world agency tasks. Finally, the program aims to foster confidence and preparedness, so graduates not only understand the rules and responsibilities but are also equipped to navigate the dynamic, client-centred nature of the role.
Entry Education’s Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice program offers a unique learning approach that weaves real industry insights into the training. Instead of just reading about theory, participants learn through case studies that reflect real sales, leasing, and client management scenarios. We also include opportunities to practice listing presentations, running open homes, negotiation, and compliance documentation – the day-to-day actions that take place in an agency.
All Entry Education trainers are current industry professionals who bring real-world examples and insights. This ensures that the content is genuinely relevant to the current state of the real estate field.
Participants who complete the course are not just equipped with knowledge; they also gain exposure to what it’s like to operate as an agent in today’s market.
Q2. What are the key units of study within the course, and how do they prepare students for real-world scenarios?
Let’s take the “Property Sales” unit as an example. At the end of this module, students will have a complete understanding of how to compile a legally compliant Contract of Sale. Along with this basic understanding of the process, the training also includes case studies based on client appraisals so students can practice appraising a property and presenting the appraisal to a hypothetical client.
Here’s another example: in the “Property Management” unit, the training covers the whole process from start to finish. This includes learning how to lease a property, manage maintenance requests, and issue formal notices. We even extend this further into Tribunal preparation, to let participants experience the full scope of a property manager’s responsibilities.
The way the units of the course are structured ensures participants not only gain knowledge of legislation and compliance but also practice scenarios they will encounter on the job. When participants eventually step into a real estate agency, they will be work-ready, confident, and able to contribute immediately.
Q3. How does the curriculum keep students up to date with current Victorian real estate legislation and market trends?
Every unit in the curriculum reflects current real estate legislation. We update it regularly accordingly to updates introduced by the Victorian Government and Consumer Affairs Victoria.
Our trainers are also industry experts who bring real life experience into the classroom. They share real examples and case studies from today’s market to provide students with exposure to the current challenges and opportunities faced by agents.
Learning experience
Q4. What specific features of the course make the learning experience unique and effective?
The Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice is designed to be both practical and flexible. We combine flexible online learning with real-world industry experience to foster confidence and develop skills.
Participants learn through hands-on case studies and simulations that mirror the actual tasks faced in an agency. Trainers who are active in the industry provide current and relevant insights and personalised support along the way, whether it’s feedback on completed work or direct guidance.
And because the content is always aligned with Victorian legislation and market trends, our participants learn processes that apply directly to the field. We also offer mixed learning options for participants to learn at their own pace or attend interactive workshops.
Q5. What kind of support can students expect to receive from the training team throughout the course?
From day one, students get personalised guidance from trainers who have extensive industry knowledge. We go beyond simply marking assessments – participants receive practical feedback on case studies, regular check-ins, and ongoing communication through email or the learning portal.
We also provide templates and guides, and share real-world industry insights so students can connect what they learn to working in a real agency. Our support is tailored to each student’s learning needs, whether it’s extra coaching, mentoring, or just a quick question answered along the way.
The goal is to have students gain the qualifications, confidence, skills and backing to step into a real estate career.
Q6. How do you make sure students aren’t just passing assessments, but really understanding the material?
This is a concern that many students have, that other real estate training courses fail to address. Instead of treating learning objectives as a tick in the box, we make sure students are fully prepared for the industry by combining practical application with ongoing support.
Role playing scenarios are one of our most valuable tools to see if students have fully understood the learning material. In these exercises, students are presented with simulated scenarios that replicate real world agency scenarios well before they meet actual clients.
Our trainers provide step-by-step guidance, breaking down the key concepts and showing how they work in practice. Students get feedback on their assessments and activities, so every task reinforces their learning.
We use interactive discussions and case studies which encourage problem solving and critical thinking. Trainers also offer mentoring support to answer any questions that come up during learning.
At the end of the program, students have a deep understanding of the material and the confidence to handle real industry situations from day one.
Career & outcomes
Q7. What are the next practical steps to start working as a real estate agent in Victoria after completing the Certificate IV course?
Once the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice is completed, the next step is to register as an Agent’s Representative with Consumer Affairs in Victoria. This allows you to start working under a licensed agent while gaining practical, on-the-job experience. You’ll need at least one year of full-time experience before applying for an individual estate agent’s licence. Along the way, you’ll continue learning about legislation, ethical practice, and market trends, giving you the knowledge and confidence to succeed in the real estate industry.
Q.8 What key skills or qualities do you believe a successful real estate agent needs, and how does this course help them develop those?
A successful real estate agent needs strong communication, negotiation, and organisational skills, along with integrity, professionalism, and resilience. This course helps participants build all of these through real-world case studies, role-plays, and hands-on exercises.
The Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice includes practical experience for key agent actions like client appraisals, property viewings, contract preparation, negotiations, and property management tasks. Participants will develop a solid understanding of legislation, ethical practice, and industry standards, and graduate with the confidence and competence to step straight into a real estate career.
Q9. What is the one piece of advice you would give to someone who is just starting their journey to become a real estate agent?
If you’re just starting out in real estate, my biggest piece of advice is to embrace learning and get as much practical experience as you can. The knowledge from your courses is important, but it’s the hands-on practice, speaking with clients, attending inspections, and observing experienced agents, that really builds confidence. Be curious, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone. Real estate is fast-paced and challenging, but with dedication and a willingness to learn, you’ll set yourself up for a successful career.
