With the number of real estate agents in Australia growing by close to 30% between 2014 and 2024, the real estate industry is becoming increasingly competitive.
To stand out from the rising number of real estate job applicants, you will need a real estate resume that clearly demonstrates to employing agencies why you’re the right person for the job.
Whether you are on the verge of obtaining your real estate certification or are looking for a big career break in one of Australia’s top real estate agencies, we’re prepared a comprehensive real estate resume writing guide covering the essentials and tips to make your application shine.
Contact information
Your real estate resume should have your name and contact details clearly displayed at the top for easy reference. This makes it easier for employers to reach out to you when the rest of the resume has made a good impression.
Contact details to include:
- Full Name
- Personal contact number
- Professional email
- LinkedIn profile
- Location (preferably your city/state)

Educational qualifications
List the highest level of educational qualification on your resume (ideally tertiary and above). While having an academic degree or diploma is not required to work in real estate, it can be viewed as a sign of learning competence by some employers.
Educational qualifications also include real estate study courses, such as the accredited entry level requirement specific to your state, or a skills development course such as a real estate social media course. Real estate study courses will typically carry more weight as they are industry relevant.
Licences and registration
You must clearly list all real estate licences and certifications in your resume. Real estate licences are state-specific and are necessary to start working in the industry.
When listing your licence and registration, include:
- Licence type and class (if applicable)
- Issuing state or territory
- Licence number
- Expiry date or current status
Licence types for each state and territory
| State/Territory | Licence Types |
|---|---|
| NSW | Certificate of Registration (Assistant Agent), Class 1 Licence (Agent), Class 2 Licence (Agent) |
| VIC | Agent’s Representative, Estate Agent’s Licence |
| QLD | Salesperson Registration, Real Estate Agent Licence, Residential Letting Agent Licence |
| WA | Sales Representative Registration, Real Estate Agent Licence, Property Management Registration |
| SA | Land Agent Registration, Sales Representative Registration, Property Management Registration |
| TAS | Property Representative, Property Agent Licence |
| ACT | Certificate of Registration (Assistant Agent), Class 1 Licence (Agent), Class 2 Licence (Agent) |
| NT | Restricted Property Management Registration, Restricted Sales Registration, Agents Representative Registration |
Work experience and achievements
Include a section in your resume that highlights your real estate experience and achievements. If you are new to the property industry and don’t have any work experience to include, include relevant internships or traineeships completed or skills that are transferable from similar or relevant roles.
Alongside past work experience, include notable achievements to give employers a better sense of your skills and suitability.
For real estate agents, this may be a total sale transaction volume or number of deals closed within a specific period. For property managers, you could cite customer reviews or number of properties managed.
Any awards achieved by your real estate performance should also be included in this section.
Relevant skills
This section of the resume should feature real estate skills that you are competent in – both hard and soft skills should be listed where relevant.
Technical skills like familiarity with CMS, CRM or MLS platforms are a bonus for many employing agencies as they will need to spend less time training you to use similar tools.
Soft skills like marketing, team management and lead generation are harder to quantify, but you can still list them on your resume. If you list a skill on your resume, you should be prepared to answer questions during the interview about it.
Professional affiliations
If you are a member of any real estate industry bodies, include it in your resume to establish your professional reputation. State and national real estate industry organisations include the Real Estate Institute of Australia (and respective state bodies), the National Real Estate Association, and the Real Estate Buyers Agents Association of Australia.
