It’s a mandatory qualification in NSW for anyone who wants to sell or lease residential or commercial properties on behalf of clients. The Class 2 real estate licence will qualify you to:
- sign listing contracts with property owners that enable you to represent them in sale or leasing transactions
- advertise and market properties for sale or lease, and organise brochures and advertising copy for newspapers, websites and social media platforms
- arrange open houses and private inspections of residential and commercial properties to potential purchasers or tenants
- negotiate property purchases or leasing agreements, and work with buyers or tenants to come an agreement with vendors or property owners
- assist with the preparation of contracts, to ensure all required documents are completed accurately.
A Class 2 real estate agent – NSW has both knowledge of broad economic trends and specific knowledge of local market conditions. They use this knowledge to advise vendors and purchasers about property values.
For example, real estate agents are asked to provide information about the types of properties that might be popular in a specific local area, and to estimate how much a particular home might bring at auction.
As a Class 2 real estate agent, you’ll be required to work under the supervision of a NSW Class 1 real estate licence holder (or strata managing agent licence holder if you’re working as a property manager). This means you won’t be able to open your own agency or manage rental properties independently.
Your Class 2 real estate licence will be issued by the NSW Office of Fair Trading after you’ve completed your course and submit your application.
How do you earn your Class 2 real estate licence NSW?
Class 2 real estate licence requirements include completion of a Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice (CPP41419) taught by a registered training organisation (RTO), such as Entry Education.

How long will it take me to meet my Class 2 real estate licence requirements?
