If you’ve been searching online “how to become a real estate agent QLD”, you’ve landed at the right place! As the leading provider of real estate training in Queensland, Entry Education make real estate learning and the process of obtaining your real estate licenses easy, accessible, and exciting.

However, before we look into the details of how to get a real estate licence QLD, let’s first take a look at your potential future work environment.

It’s boom time in the Queensland real estate industry

It’s true! There’s no better time than now to work as a real estate agent in QLD.

In April, Stuart Marsh of 9News told his viewers that the median property home price in Brisbane had grown from $470,000 to $548,260 over the past five years, an increase of almost 17%.

In some parts of regional Queensland, growth rates have been even more impressive.

In June 2021, the Townsville Bulletin reported that home prices in Toowoomba City had soared an incredible 41.69% over the previous 12 months. You saw that right!

Surging real estate prices have, in part, been driven by high rates of interstate migration to Queensland from other parts of Australia.

“Queensland experienced a boom in new residents not seen in almost two decades,” The Brisbane Times reported. The state has achieved “its highest net gain since 2004, with 30,000 moving to the Sunshine State from interstate”.

And the surge looks set to continue. So, what does this mean for those looking to take the next step and figure out how to become an estate agent?

How to become a real estate agent in QLD

Completion of an Entry Education QLD real estate course can lead to a lucrative and fulfilling career in the property industry.

You can choose from four different courses that will qualify you for roles in the Queensland real estate industry.

1. Real Estate Salesperson Registration course (formerly known as the Real Estate Registration course)
2. Resident Letting Agent Licence course
3. Real Estate Agent Licence course (formerly known as the Real Estate Licensing course)
4. Real Estate Auctioneer Licence course

Let’s take a closer look at these courses, to help you understand how to become a real estate agent QLD.

1. Real Estate Salesperson Registration course

This is the entry level qualification required to work in the real estate industry in both sales and property management.

The Real Estate Salesperson Registration course is where your career in real estate starts.

Working under the supervision of a licensed Queensland real estate agent, you’ll be able to market and sell residential and commercial property, and manage rental property. You can inspect and evaluate properties for sale or rent and work with vendors, buyers, tenants and landlords.

How do I become a registered real estate salesperson in Queensland?

In order to work as a registered real estate salesperson in Queensland, you must qualify for the Real Estate Registration Certificate. Until recently, this was known as the Real Estate Registration course.

There are 12 units of competency in the course that must be completed within a 12-month period. You must complete this course with a registered training organisation (RTO) to be able to register with the Office of Fair Trading Queensland.

Once that’s done, you can begin your career in real estate!

2. Residential Letting Agent Licence

You’ll need a Residential Letting Agent Licence if you want to establish a career in residential property management.

Working under the supervision of a licensed Queensland real estate agent, the Residential Letting Agent Certificate will qualify you to rent and manage units in building complexes on behalf of owners and body corporates.

You will also be authorised to operate a trust account.

This certificate will not authorise you to buy or sell property – even if it’s one of the units in the complex that you manage. It also restricts your property rental activity to complexes that you manage.

This means you cannot show, rent or sell units in other residential complexes.

The course consists of 15 units of competency that will need to be completed within a 12-month period.

4. Real Estate Auctioneer Licence

As a licensed real estate auctioneer, you’ll be able to auction both residential and commercial property.

This is a high-octane real estate role that involves managing the bidding process on auction day and ensuring all legal requirements of sale are met.

It will be your job to see bidding is transparent and to implement a strategy that keeps the auction momentum going. Achieving the best price for your vendors is your goal.

A Queensland Real Estate Auctioneer Licence also enables you to sell other types of property, if linked to a real property sale. So you could be selling livestock as part of the sale of farmland.
