How do I become a real estate agent in Western Australia?

At Entry Education, we offer four real estate courses for Western Australia. After you successfully complete the course you’ve chosen, you need to apply to the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) for registration to work in the real estate industry.

1. Entry level – Restricted Sales Registration course

The Restricted Sales Registration course is the perfect starting point for those wondering how to become a real estate agent in Western Australia. After you complete the course and register with DMIR, you can work in a sales role under the supervision of a fully licensed real estate agent in any real estate agency across Western Australia.

You’ll be able to work in commercial and residential property, as a buyers agent, a business broker and other roles.

There are 13 units of competency in the Restricted Sales Registration course. These include appraisal of property, establishing vendor relationships, selling property and preparing to work with real estate trust accounts.

These 13 units prepare you for a successful career in real estate and are conducted entirely online with student support. The units are taken from the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice CPP41419.

2. Entry level – Restricted Property Management Registration

If you’re interested in property management, including appraising and marketing properties for lease, establishing relationships with landlords and managing tenant relationships, this course for future property managers is for you.

If you’re good at your job, you’ll be in demand.

You’ll study 12 units of competency that are taken from the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice Certificate and, after you’ve registered with the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety, you’ll be able to work as a registered property manager across Western Australia.

Property management is a great career if you enjoy working with people and assisting them in making life-changing decisions about where they’re going to live. You’ll prepare tenancy agreements, liaise with tradespeople and conduct property inspections.

Recently, new courses were introduced across the real estate industry. The Restricted Property Management Registration course replaces the Property Management Certificate course.

3. Work in both sales and property management – Unrestricted Real Estate Registration (Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice CPP41419)

This is the Certificate IV course known as Unrestricted Real Estate Registration. Once you’ve completed the course and registered with the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety you’ll be able to manage residential and commercial property across Western Australia. It’s an essential certificate for licensed real estate agents in Western Australia.

This complete Certificate IV CPP41419 course has 18 units of competency. You may have completed some of these units as part of your Restricted Sales Registration course or Restricted Property Management course.

This isn’t the full real estate licence course. To work as a sole trader or run your own agency you’ll need to complete the additional 12 units of study in the Diploma course.

Recently, new courses were introduced across the real estate industry. This Unrestricted Property Management course replaces the Agent’s Registration – Sales/Property Management Representative Program.

4. Run your own agency – Diploma of Property (Agency management) CPP51122

This is a diploma course and considered the full licensing course in Western Australia – The Triennial Certificate. Once you’ve completed the course you can obtain your full Real Estate Licence from the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety and open your own agency or work as a sole trader.

There are 12 units of competency in the agency management diploma, and these include managerial skills such as managing operational finances, developing a marketing and service strategy in real estate and managing customers and staff.

To obtain a full Real Estate Licence or triennial certificate you need to have completed both the 18 units from the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice and the 12 units from the Diploma of Property. You’ll also need at least two years experience in the industry.

It sounds like a lot, but remember the entry level courses we’ve discussed here are composed of units that make up the Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice.
